Our Method Pillars
There is a reason that we call our staff guides and not teachers. Our guides are not conduits of knowledge or arbitrary authority figures. They help to lead our students through new challenges, both academically and personally, showing them how to find their own way instead of directing each step. They care deeply about the individual development of every single student in our community. They see learning alongside their students as a privilege and an exciting and important part of the job.
Improving upon the “fail or succeed” model of grading, we have developed an evaluative model that gives our students and their parents plentiful information to aid in their child’s academic and personal growth. Every nine weeks, a quarterly report is sent to our families. Included in that report is a page of narrative from each guide including information on the student’s strengths and needs, all based on their personal goals. That information is then used by the whole team to propel the student to new heights of achievement.
The foundation of our program is the relationships between guides, students, and families, maintained through active communication. At KoSchool, every student has a personal Integrity Coach, who is responsible for an awareness of the student’s social, emotional, and academic experience. In addition, they are the front line of communication for parents, keeping them up to date on what is going on with their child and addressing any concerns as they come up.
